About the Author

Kathryn McMiller, RHIA, is an independent Health Information Management consultant based in Southern California. She has over 24 years experience in HIM, the last eight years as a consultant specializing in interim HIM department assessments and interim management and computer system installation project management. Kathryn has worked in hospitals ranging in size from 110 to 1,000 beds in various parts of the country.

As the requirements for more and diverse types of documentation in medical records increase, the role of the Medical Records/Health Information Clerk in keeping the Health Information Management Department functioning becomes more and more critical. It is the intent of this text to provide basic information that will make the entry-level Medical Records/Health Information Clerk immediately effective.

Chapters 1 and 2 provide an overview of the Medical Records/Health Information Clerk function and the Health Information Management Department. Chapters 3, 4, 5, and 6 teach the student filing and retrieval, record processing, assembly, and analysis. Chapter 7 discusses working with physicians in the Physician Incomplete Area. Chapter 8 deals with confidentiality and release of information, and Chapter 9 discusses other functions to which a Medical Records/Health Information Clerk may be assigned. Each chapter discusses computerization of documentation and the functions of a Health Information Management Department, where applicable.

The text of Being a Medical Records/Health Information Clerk is designed to be used as a reference. About the Author
Robert Yeats is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Geological Society of America. He is senior consultant and partner in Earth Consultants International, an international firm focusing on earthquake hazards, and also an Emeritus Professor at Oregon State University. He has decades of experience in earthquake geology worldwide, including acting as chair of the International Lithosphere Project on active faults for several years and authoring three previous books: Geology of Earthquakes (with Kerry Sieh and Clarence R. Allen), Living with Earthquakes in California and Living with Earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest. An endowed professorship at Oregon State University has been named in his honour and the AAPG have recognised his work by awarding him the Michel T. Halbouty Human Needs Award.

Essential reference for geohazards

Yeats' book will be an essential go-to reference for anyone working in seismic hazards, for at least the next decade. Yeats is uniquely qualified to pull together this massive compilation based on his decades-long experience on active fault databases and international working groups. He gives the active faults described a solid context of structural geology (his academic background) and seismotectonics, but also weaves in the seismic hazard implications (from his consulting experience). He also points out what we don't know. The only drawback to this book is that it will need revision in another decade, to include the next generation of copious neotectonic publications. But even then, the solid structural geology foundation of this book will remain relevant.

Great book.

This is the newest book by Robert Yeats. I have the two about earthquakes in the Pacific northwest and California and those two provide a great amount of info. This one examines world faults in good detail. I just wish the book was larger and had color maps. The major fault zones are described well with the latest paleoseismic studies. Anyone with an interest in earthquakes should get this book.

Get Waley's Instead

This edition of Journey to the West really has no reason to exist. It's basically a rephrased version of Arthur Waley's classic abridgement, but without the whimsical fun factor. Also, the illustrations are borderline terrifying. The cover looks fine, but the pictures scattered througout the book are hideous. Why does Sun Wukong look like a grizzled hellbeast?

Monkeys!

To be honest I skimmed it at best. It was a gift to someone I know is year of the monkey :-) They were pretty thrilled with it though. We don't really believe in the horoscope stuff but it is fun to get things like this.

A very honest book

It is a very raw and honest story. I kept thinking of my mother as I read it. When my mother was undergoing chemo she hated that people always told her to think positive and wouldn't let her complain. She said sometimes she just wanted to say cancer sucks. She eventually died of cancer. That's why I was so moved by this book. So many authors try so hard to be inspirational and their stories ring a little hollow. Wendy Solorio doesn't fall into that camp, she told her story blemishes and all. Mexicancer reminds us that is human to be afraid, to cry, and even rage on the road to overcoming obstacles.
